The copper statue, created by Guillaubey, a sculptor originally from Lyon, was erected and then inaugurated on June 29, 2000, on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Lyon on June 29, 1900. It represents Saint-Exupéry and the Little Prince seated at the top of a white marble column which measures more than 5m and weighs 7 tons.
