On July 31, 1944, shortly after 8:00 a.m., Commander Antoine de Saint-Exupéry took off from Borgo airfield, near Bastia in Corsica, aboard his P-38 Lightning to carry out a photographic mission east of Lyon. At 1:00 p.m., he still has not returned; radio calls went unanswered and alert radars searched for him in vain. The wreckage of his plane was only found by the diver Luc Vanrell at the foot of the island of Riou off Marseille in the year 2000! That is 56 years after his death, for the centenary of his birth! Even if several hypotheses have emerged, the mystery surrounding the circumstances of his death remains intact...
